Nigeria: Where presidential election campaign is another aso ebi craze

It is commendable seeing politicians gathering for photos without Owambe craze. Our issues are of many layers, hopefully we will work our way through shedding wasteful habits bit by bit.

Most of the time it is accumulation of small things that add up to become big issue. Why must election campaign be another Owambe? Is it important to Nigerians that campaigners and supporters be in uniform?

One small detail I have noticed lately since this election campaign started was the outfits worn on the campaign trail – trivial? Not really. In the case of Nigeria, it is a big deal, adds up.

Owambe is not all positive as we make it to be and when used to a great extent during election campaign, it is even more damaging because the money be it private or public could have been better spent on things that could directly add value to people’s life, dig one or two community toilet or borehole for a starter.

Other countries when campaigning for general elections would opt to wear t-shirts to support their party, but in our case it is a full attire costing the nation millions of naira.

I am sure both APC and PDP are guilty of this, however I have noticed on many occasion where APC, Buhari’s party opt to wear their everyday clothing on the campaign trail. However, in the case of our sitting president GEJ, it is shameful, women are worse – it is all without a fail Aso ebi

Why must we be in uniform when campaigning for public offices? This is one of the many ways Nigeria misplaced priorities of what people needed, it will take a visionary leader to see how wasteful this habit is.

  1. The Aso Ebi abi Aso something is limited to PDP alone o! both parties are guilty of it. Well that’s a matter for another day. Agreeing to Jacob FK for President…by the way, which alphabet will you use, seeing they have finished using all the alphabets. Hmmm. Now I know what to write about.

You have to love me for this.

    • I think so too, but I just for some reason have seen GEJ and his gangs more in it. Both really do need to get life, annoying tradition that only shows how wasteful we are.

Got to dig out photo of APC so they are both in the hall of shame!

Of course I love you! You can imagine how creative I would get with this, got to be independent party, we will be different, got to be mostly villagers (with sense) 🙂 Pls Frances, now you got me excited! And for the name, initials of all the kings in the land? 🙂

  2. What baffles me most with the election craze is, seeing posters everywhere in Lagos. There is a standing order for all walls in public places to be poster free. Truth is, if the people willing to be in Government cannot adhere to rules, all in the name of campaigning, then what kind of persons are they. Virtually all the political aspirants in Lagos are guilty of breaking this standing order.

    • Ha, ha, they are all the same, aren’t they? Well, sadly in our dear love-hate country rules do not apply to a handful of people because they are the rules. And also, they will continue to break all rules because they have people nodding along to all the empty promises they make

      Feb 14th it is.

      Thanks for stopping by

  3. Agreed.
I saw a newsclip, where internally displaced persons in Abuja (victims of Boko Haram attacks) are living in conditions that people in the UK, would not keep their pets in.
Here is the link, you can view it @ 18.50.

In the light of such undeserved hardship, the money spent on these extravagant uniforms for electioneering could be put to better use. Like giving these people better accomodation and assistance to get back on their feet.
    FK for president!!!

    • Ha, ha! Ribs cracking 🙂 You’ll give my royal family heart attack!

Adeola is amazing with her videos. But you see, these people have no shame, because some Nigerians, the so called minsters of God (major ones) and godfathers of all tribes whose understanding of Nigeria is a ‘done for’ are there assuring Jonathan he is doing enough.

I think Jonathan is the reality check that Nigeria needed – the guy has broken all the records in his 8 year inside Aso Rock and God bless him with Madam P too who instead of helping to shed lights, has her own agenda of bling bling at the expense of the citizens.
